TB Hospital and Prison Farm

The state of Massachusetts had run the hospital in the early 1900s’ for prisoners with TB.

They had a rehabilitation program that allowed the prisoners to work on the farm raising animals for milk and eggs. The fresh air and environment allowed many to regain their health. It eventually became a thriving farm of 150 acres with a 100-bed hospital, operated in part by the prisoners.

The surrounding property was acquired by the State later on, to help preserve the Quabbin reservoir watershed. This is private property, so permission is required to enter.
